On July 27,2007 the Construction Industries Commission (CIC) approved the New Mexico Building Codes that had been he subject of public hearings on July 16 th . These new codes become effective January 1, 2008.   Building permits may be issued under either the current codes or the new codes from January 1 through June 30, 2008. Beginning on July 1, 2008 all permits will be issued under the new codes.

2008 ELECTRICAL CODE ADOPTION

The Construction Industries Division is in the process of updating the New Mexico Electrical Code (NMEC) and the New Mexico Electrical Safety Code (NMESC). These updates will amend and adopt the 2008 National Electrical Code and 2007 National Electrical Safety Code. Proposed amendments to these codes must be received in writing by CID no later than 5 :00 p.m. on September 14, 2007. Only proposed amendments submitted on the applicable CID-approved Electrical Code Proposal Form will be accepted.
